The world was criticizing the tennis star Novak Djokovic for his participation in the Adria Tour which took place in June this year. The tennis star was tested positive after the event took place. The event attracted a large crowd to witness it with underwhelming social distancing measures. The players participating in the tournament were seen giving high-five, shaking hands, playing basketball, dancing with each other, and even giving hugs.
The Serbian took the most damage to his reputation and got an all-out backlash from people all over the world. However, the World Number 1 tennis star has apologized for the problems caused by the tournament he had hosted. To support him in this time Dominic Thiem stepped up. Thiem who is no. 3 in the world stated that Novak was not at fault for hosting such an event and he should not be criticized.
But in contrast to this, Nick Kyrgios, who is a fellow tennis professional said that it was stupid to host such a tournament when the world is fighting such a deadly virus. Nick also criticized Thiem for taking part in such an event. But, Thiem backed Djokovic and said that Djokovic was trying to do something at this time when negativity is spread all around the world.
It is reported that the tournament was to be held from June 13 to July 5 in almost 4 cities. Thiem further added that Djokovic never forced anyone to be a part of the event and no law was breeched during the event.
Many tennis stars were invited in the tournament, including Thiem, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, and others. The director of the event was none other than Djordje, Djokovic’s brother. What followed was Djordje testing positive and the whole tour was canceled.
